Since 2007, we at A&I Automotive have been very involved in the co-op program offered at local high schools.

Having students from a cooperative education program in an auto shop can bring a host of joys and benefits to the shop and the students alike. These co-op students are often passionate about automotive technology and eager to learn, which can bring a new sense of energy and enthusiasm to the shop environment.
 
One of the primary joys of having co-op students in an auto shop is the opportunity to mentor and teach the next generation of automotive technicians. As experienced professionals, shop owners and senior technicians have the chance to share their knowledge and expertise with these young learners. This not only helps the students gain valuable skills and hands-on experience but also allows the mentors to pass on their passion for the industry and instill a strong work ethic.
 
Having co-op students in the shop can also bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. These students often come from diverse backgrounds and may have been exposed to new automotive trends or technologies in their academic programs. Their presence in the shop can lead to new discussions and the exchange of ideas, which can be invigorating for the entire team.

The co-op program offers invaluable hands-on experience that simply can’t be gained in a traditional classroom setting.

Working in an auto shop allows them to apply the theories and concepts they’ve learned in school to practical situations, deepening their understanding and mastery of automotive technology. This can be an incredibly rewarding experience as they see their skills and confidence grow with each task they take on.

We have had over 40 students throughout the years—some have decided to continue in the ‘trades,’ some have become professional football players, while others realized that it wasn’t their calling. Regardless, we are proud of all of them and want to continue influencing these young minds. We strongly believe and encourage the co-op program.
